They also identified four steps that complete a true communication process:
- Expressing yourself;
- Getting confirmation that your speech as been proper understood;
- Listening to the other;
- Confirming that you understood what the other said.
It seems pretty straight forward, right? Based my experience, I can tell that this is harder than it looks. We’re usually expressing ourselves and that’s pretty much it so we’re getting stuck in step 1. Most of the time, the other won’t confirm that he/she understood what we said and they will express themselves and we’re “listening”, but after that, we’re expressing ourselves.
